Man hits woman in head with hammer after allegedly demanding pills

Police are searching for a man after a woman was hit in the head with a hammer on the 4200 block of Meritas Drive, according to a Columbus Police report.

A 53-year-old woman told officers while she was being treated at St. Francis for injuries that her friend, 53-year-old Bobby Newman, struck her in the left side of the head with a hammer. The alleged assault resulted in a contusion and abrasion on her head.

The victim told police that Newman said, "You gonna give me your pills or I am going to kill you," during the incident.

Officers reported they would seek a warrant charging Newman with aggravated assault. Newman is described as 5-foot-5 black man who weighs about 190 pounds and has a light complexion.

No arrests were made.
