TV Judge Glenda A. Hatchett, known for her tough disciplinary rulings and paternity tests for pregnant teens, will be the keynote speaker at the 17th Annual Urban League Equal Opportunity Day Awards Dinner.
The black-tie event will be held 7 p.m. Saturday, October 5th, at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. There will be a reception at 6 p.m., and a dance at 8:30 p.m. featuring D.S.O.S Band with radio personality Michael Soul as the D.J..
The theme for the evening will be "Empowered to Shape our Future," and proceeds will help the Urban League provide training programs for employment, foreclosure prevention, housing, economic development, prisoner-re-entry, youth education and adult literacy programs, organizers said. The organization hopes to raise $750,000.
"Fulfilling our mission will lead to a better quality of life and a better community for all people," said Susan Cooper, the local Urban League Board Chair. "This only happens when we reach back to help those who are in need, pull them up, and out of poverty and into the mainstream of economic prosperity. This (Equal Opportunity Day) Dinner and Gala will help to ensure the Urban League's success in meeting these goals."
