United Way Youth Council members to attend White House Briefing Friday

Two students with the local United Way Youth Council will attend a briefing at the White House Friday to discuss the Obama administration's efforts to improve education in local communities.

Emily Flatt and Gracen Wood, both seniors at Columbus High School, will attend the 2:30 p.m. meeting as participants in a three-day Student United Way Leadership Retreat in Alexandria, Va. They will be accompanied by United Way staff members Candace Poole, campaign associate, and Brittney Barefield, an accountant.

The leadership retreat is an annual gathering of student leaders, staff and advisers from United Way branches across the network, according to a news release issued by the local organization. The trip is funded by a grant, the release said.
