Possible hate crime in Opelika, Ala., turned over to FBI

The Wednesday report of a possible hate crime at the Semyoungjin Hitech, LLC, in Opelika, Ala., has been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, authorities said.

The Opelika Police Department first responded to the 11 a.m. call at 214 Williamson Ave. Authorities didn’t disclose any details about the incident that occurred at the manufacturing company.

Capt. Shane D. Healey of the Opelika Police Department said Thursday the incident has been turned over to the Mobile office of the FBI.

“We really don’t have anything else on it to release,” he said.

A call to the Mobile office wasn’t immediately returned late Thursday.

Police said state and national NAACP were involved in the reporting of the incident. Authorities said more information will be released as it is developed.
