Lee County deputies seize $14,000 in cash, marijuana in raids

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office seized a quantity of methamphetamine, four pounds of marijuana and $14,000 in cash Friday during separate drug raids in east Alabama.

The suspects were identified as Franklin Eugene Peacock, 50, of Smiths Station and Roger Lardrell McCullough, 35, of Opelika.

Peacock faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of prescription medication. He is held on $5,000 bond in the Lee County Detention Facility.

McCullough was charged with trafficking marijuana, felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of marijuana first degree and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Because of federal probation is revoked, he is held without bond on the charges.

The sheriff’s office and the County Wide SWAT Team executed a search warrant at 6 a.m. CDT at Peacock’s home in the 100 block of Lee Road 927. Authorities found a quantity of meth, several types of prescription drugs and drug storage devices. Although the investigation continues, authorities said the arrest is the result of a three-month investigation.

More than four hours before Peacock’s arrest, McCullough was stopped on Columbus Parkway after an investigator observed a traffic violation. During a traffic stop on the 2008 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Peacock, the investigator smelled raw marijuana from inside the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed a quantity of marijuana and cash. Evidence from the vehicle led authorities to search a hotel room in Auburn. Inside the room, deputies seized additional marijuana and cash.
