Columbus Cottonmouths open homestand still looking for first win

The Columbus Cottonmouths open up a three-game homestand on Friday still looking for the first win of the season.

The Snakes, who are 0-7, host Fayetteville at 7:30 p.m. They host Peoria for a pair of games, one at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and another at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Snakes have struggled on both ends of the ice. They have scored just 10 goals and have allowed 27.

In an effort to find some offense, the Snakes signed forwards Kyle Thomas and Shawn Bates on Thursday.

Thomas had 126 points (68 goals and 58 assists) in 114 games in four years at Norwich University. He played six games with Reading of the ECHL last year and one game with Quad City of the ECHL this season.

Bates had 46 points (19-27) in four years at Merrimack College.

Shannon Szabados will start in goal for the Snakes on Friday.

Fayetteville and Mississippi are tied right above Columbus with five points. Both teams are 2-4-1.
