Kirkland, Funderburk, Harris lead Columbus State men to win

AIKEN, S.C. -- DeAngelo Kirkland (17), Kenney Funderburk (16) and Ty Harris (15) combined for 48 points in leading Columbus State to a 66-58 victory over Winston-Salem State on Friday night.

Columbus State (2-0) outscored Winston-Salem State 10-1 over the final 4:44 of the game.

Terrell Leach hit a pair of free throws to give Winston-Salem State a 57-56 lead.

Harris hit a free throw to tie the game, then made a layup to give the Cougars the lead for good at 59-57 with 3:29 left.

Wykevin Bazemore hit one of two free throws with 2:08 left to bring Winston-Salem State to within one. That would be its final point of the game.

CSU scored its final seven points on free throws.

The game was part of the two-day USC Aiken Challenge. The Cougars will play Elizabeth City State at 3 p.m. today.

Friday night's game was delayed for over two hours when no referees showed up for the 5 p.m. start.

USC Aiken officials had to track down three officials to call the game.

Leach led Winston-Salem State with 17 points.
