Child, 3, struck by car in Opelika; woman assaulted

In a turn of events that may not be related, Opelika Police are investigating a 3-year-old child struck by a car, a woman who was assaulted and a car with gunshots on Saturday.

Although the incidents occurred in the same area, police don’t know if or how any are related. No names were released in any of the incidents.

Police were called to Chester Avenue and Samford Court at 2:30 p.m. to check on a child struck by a car. Police and emergency medical personnel from East Alabama Medical Center treated the child before transporting the victim to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta. No report was available on the child’s condition.

The 31-year-old woman was found at the scene of the crash. She was flown to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus where she was in stable condition for non-life threatening injuries.

In the same area, a car was damaged by gunshots at about the same time.
