Local pet groomer to be featured on CNN's 'Somebody's Gotta Do It'
They call her the "Queen of Color." Wednesday night you can call her TV star.
Columbus' Dawn Omboy and her pet salon Klippers Grooming Service will be featured Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CNN's "Somebody's Gotta Do It" hosted by Mike Rowe.
Omboy said Rowe visited her salon located at 5727B Moon Road back in September. Rowe worked on one of her dogs and put hair color on another.
"He did some airbrushing and some pet paint," Omboy said. "It was fabulous. He's just as awesome as he appears on TV."
Omboy, 55, is an international creative styling artist for pets. She speaks at and judges competitions around the world. Besides doing regular grooming, her salon offers other services such as hair color, hair sculpting and designs. They also specialize in handling older dogs, she said.
Omboy's business has been around about 25 years. She calls it the area's "best-kept secret."
Omboy and her business were found because CNN was "looking for somebody that loves what they do and have a passion for what they do."
She said her business, which employs six people including herself, sees about 25 animals a day.
"We’ll have some dogs there that will have some airbrushing and carving and designs on them," Omboy said. "One will be done on a competition level bases. We do several touches of color a week. There’s a dog from Body Fitness Studio that we do their logo on the dog."
They also provide basic grooming and weekly maintenance programs. Omboy said everything Klippers uses is safe for pets and has been tested. When asked if she faces any criticism for her services, she said, "What is so terrible about getting extra attention?"
Rowe and his crew spent about four hours in the salon, she said.
While the TV crew was in town, they also visited the Lunch Box Museum, 318 10th Ave. Their segment likely will air in January.
Omboy and some of her dogs also will be featured Friday night during the first intermission of the Columbus Cottonmouths hockey game. Under the name "Puck and Paws," Omboy will show off some of her work, which will include a poodle painted like a snake in honor of the hockey team.
The game starts at 7:30 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans will receiver player cards.
