Columbus Cottonmouths win two of three against Fayetteville FireAntz
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Columbus Cottonmouths beat the Fayetteville FireAntz 4-2 on Sunday afternoon, taking 2-of-3 games in a weekend set.
The Snakes trailed 2-1 after the first period, but they took the lead for good with a pair of goals in the second period.
Louis Belisle scored at 11:42 to tie the game. The assists went to Patrick McCadden and Craig Simchuk.
Kyle Thomas scored the go-ahead goal at 14:58. It was a short-handed goal with the assists by Andy Willigar and Shawn Bates.
Max Cook scored at 5:29 of the third period for a 4-2 lead. Simchuk had the assist.
Goalie Andrew Loewen made the lead stand up. He stopped 27 shots, including 15 in the third period.
Neillson Arcibal scored the Snakes' first-period goal.
Columbus lost at Fayetteville on Friday and won in Columbus Saturday. The two wins allowed Columbus (15-11) to move into fifth place in the SPHL, one point ahead of Fayetteville.
