Levi Lind leads Cottonmouths to 5-3 win at Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Levi Lind scored a goal and had two assists Saturday to lead the Columbus Cottonmouths to a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Huntsville Havoc at Breland Homes Center.
Huntsville (5-18-2) got on the board first on a power play goal by Drew Akins at 9:52 of the first period. The Snakes (17-11-0) evened the score at 1-1 on a goal by Bryce Williamson with assists from Neilsson Arcibal and Nick Curry.
In the second period, Akins gave Huntsville the lead again just 51 seconds in with assists from Frank Schumacher and Lucas Van Natter. Huntsville extended the lead to 3-1 on a goal by Van Natter at 8:08.
But from there on, it was all Cottonmouths. Louis Belisle scored with assists from Lind and Curry at 12:47 to bring the Snakes within a goal. Arcibal scored on a power play with assists from Lind and Williamson at 16:19 to tie the score 3-3 going into the final period.
It was a hard-fought third period with Craig Simchuk finally giving the Snakes the lead at 18:12 on an assist from Patrick McCadden. Lind added an empty-net goal at 19:26 to close out the scoring.
Andrew Loewen made 26 saves on 29 shots to pick up the win for the Cottonmouths. It was his 11th straight win.
Columbus -- which has now won four straight games -- returns home today to finish the weekend with a matinee game against the league-leading Pensacola Ice Flyers. That game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. faceoff.
