College roundup: Olten Downs hired by UGA

Former Shaw High standout and Carver assistant coach Olten Downs has been hired by Georgia as a quality control assistant for offense, according to a report on onlineathens.com on Monday.

Downs had been the head coach at Creekside the past two seasons. He led Creekside to the Class AAAAA state title in 2013. He was the head coach at Riverside High prior to being hired at Creekside.


CSU men's golf shoots a 9-over second round

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- The Columbus State men's golf team shot a 9-over 297 on Monday in the second round of the Southeastern Collegiate.

The Cougars have a two-day total of 17-over 593. They slipped one spot to ninth.

St. Leo shot a 12-under 276 Monday to move up four spots to first with a 568. Lynn is second at 577, followed by Flagler at 585, Florida Southern and Barry at 587, Armstrong State at 589 and Georgia College and Florida Tech at 591.

Robert Mize moved down three spots into a tie for seventh after a 74 left him at 1-under 143. Video van der Vyver dropped six spots to a tie for 20th after a 74 left him at 2-over 146.

Tae Hyung Kim moved up 11 to a tie for 36th after a 74 left him at 6-over 150. Bryan Lichimo moved up four to a tie for 64th after a 75 left him at 154.

Yannick Gumowski moved down four to 87th after a second-straight 82 left him at 164.


CVCC tops Central Alabama 9-2

Ryan Hagan went 3-4 getting two doubles and two RBI to lead CVCC to a 9-2 victory over Central Alabama Monday.
