Columbus State softball routs Francis Marion in Game 1; loses in Game 2

Kailey Bailey had a double and drove in four runs to lead Columbus State to a 10-2 rout of Francis Marion in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Cougar Field on Sunday.

The Lady Cougars couldn't finish the sweep, however, losing the second game 10-6.

Kia Smith and McKenzie Fagioli both had three hits as CSU pounded out 14 in the opener including five doubles -- two by Smith -- and a homer by Kristen Carr.

Taylor Turner (7-3) earned the win, giving up two unearned runs on two hits in four innings.

Francis Marion scored six runs in the third inning of Game 2 to take an 8-0 lead.

Lindsey Defee had two of CSU's six hits. Taylor Woods had a homer.

Carr (9-6) took the loss, giving up five runs in two innings.

CSU (19-7, 5-7 Peach Belt Conference) will play at UNC Pembroke in a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 2 p.m.
