A head-on collision and vehicle fire on State Route 103 left a Columbus woman and an Atlanta man dead Friday morning in rural Harris County near mile marker 6, the Georgia State Patrol said.
The two were identified as Carolyn Elizabeth Rivera, 45, of Columbus and David Scott Zortman, 48, of Atlanta.
One driver of a vehicle was pronounced dead at 9:03 a.m. and the second was declared dead about nine minutes later, said Troup County Coroner Jeffrey Cook who responded to the accident for the Harris County Coroner.
Troopers said Zortman was driving a 2009 Jeep Wrangler about 8:30 a.m. when the vehicle crossed into the path of a 2004 Lincoln Navigator driven by Rivera and collided head on. Authorities said a fire ignited in one vehicle after the impact with the other vehicle.
The collision remains under investigation by the troopers.
