Georgia Southwestern rallies past Columbus State

Columbus State couldn't hold an early 4-1 lead and fell 10-8 to Georgia Southwestern on Friday afternoon at Ragsdale Field.

The Hurricanes scored a single run in the third, four in the fourth and another run in the fifth to build its own three-run lead.

Evan Alderma went 4-for-5 to lead GSW (11-23, 3-19 Peach Belt Conference). Paul Sorrow hit two homers.

Dustin Averett, Blake Edwards and Mike McClellan had two hits apiece for the Cougars. One of Averett's was a homer.

The loss ended a six-game winning streak for CSU (23-11, 9-10).

Mike McGinnity took the loss. He allowed six runs on nine hits in 3 1-3 innings.

Efforts are now under way to add a 25-mile bicycle trail to Standing Boy Creek Wildlife Management Area in Columbus, Ga. Fundraising is taking place, with hopes to have a beginner portion ready this spring.
