Columbus woman says she was raped, battered inside residence

Authorities say a 56-year-old woman was battered and sexually assaulted early Wednesday morning at an unknown location.

No suspects have been identified, but the attacker is not a stranger to the surviving victim, according to reports. A description of the suspect was not provided.

Around midnight, the sex offender reportedly pulled, punched and raped the victim inside of a single-family residence, police said. Reports show that officials have not learned the address of that residence.

The woman was taken to the Midtown Medical Center in an ambulance and treated for injuries to her abdomen and right arm. She's in good condition, officers said. On Wednesday, an official was called to the Shell Fuel Station on River Road to meet with the victim and discuss the incident.

Police continue to investigate the sexual assault.
