There was a six-vehicle wreck early today involving two log trucks on Alabama Highway 165 near the back gate of Fort Benning, according to Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor.
Taylor said there were no serious injuries.
"We were very lucky," he said.
About 6 a.m. a loaded log truck was traveling south on 165 when a car pulled out in front of it, Taylor said. The truck, which was going to the paper mill in Cottonton, was then struck by another log truck that was behind it. That truck hit three more vehicles.
The wreck happened near the intersection of 101st Airborne Road and Highway 165. The state road was closed for several hours during the investigation and clean up.
It was the second wreck involving loaded log trucks in less than 24 hours. Thursday afternoon a truck crashed on the westbound lane of J.R. Allen Parkway in Columbus. That wrecked backed up traffic in north Columbus and Phenix City for more than five hours.
