Excerpts from Obeah's rap lyrics
From his 2009 rap “The Meaning” off the album “Not Your Brother’s Boom Bap” with his former group The ContraVerse. Obeah wrote the rap in tribute to his family. “Some lines in particular were meant for my dad. This was from the perspective prior to the current success.”
“I've been observing this world now for a quarter of a century
And trust me, there is nothing worth more than what you've meant to me
I'll never get to say it 'cause this language won't convey it
The reason that I'm writing and I stay so motivated
I'm working hard to show you I'm achieving all my dreams
Even if we have a different idea of what that means
It seems our perception of things is candy covered
We'll see eye to eye once we understand each other
My grandmother told me every generation changes
I'd hate to think that change would make here live her days with anxious tention
Praying she'll receive her proper pention
She'll see her days of glory way before the great ascension,
But until then, just keep your head up and eyes ahead
Keep building character and heed the words the wise have said
It pains me that I spend most of my days without you
Hope and experience it what it all amounts to
So, I'll go see the world and then I'll bring it home to you
Through a poem or a picture
There is nothing I won't do
You are the apple of my eye, the sugar in my soul
Your story hasn't touched that many, but it would if it were told
So, I'll take the liberty along with all the love you've given me
And write another song for you in honor of your memory and presence
Plus the lessons and impressions you've imparted
You gave me this gift of life and ever since it started
You've been the common denominator
Every time that I slip you help me find a way to retighten my grip
To my mother and my lover, my father and my brother
My love for you, a fire that's impossible to smother
This flame burning eternally
When anguished, you can turn to me
Some of us struggling and not where we deserve to be
But history will judge us
I have faith in your intentions
Our mark made on this world forever hanging in suspension”

From the rap “World Citizen” (2014) off of DJ Lord’s “Eat the Rat” album. Obeah called it “a tongue-in-cheek song about world travel.”
"World Citizen staying on a mission and
When I get home, back to training and conditioning
Eating at places awarded stars by Michelin
Keeping the pace
Man, we're going hard
Get it in
Hands to the ceiling. Chilling with the Brazilian fam
I'll tell you 'bout it later
Peep the $#!T on Instagram
High definition. Maybe even filtered cam
Set ablaze to the stage. Almost killed a man
In the Danger Room sipping nectar of the gods
If we're stepping on stage, I'm expecting some applause
Out in the UK eating extra crispy cod
The fish and chips are cool, but the rest that $#!T is odd
Pinot Noir instead of bottles of the Henny (Hennessy)
We're getting busy down in Papua New Guinea
London, Spain... Taking the train to Amsterdam
Getting flown all the way out to France to jam"

From the rap “GTFO” (2014) off of DJ Lord’s “Eat the Rat” album:
"It's like some kind of lucid dream
Where we choose to fiend
Snuffing out the shine of a diamond that used to gleam
It's a sign of the time like Mussolini
Only wanna do it if it’s gonna boost the team
For sure, but little did he know, it’s the same team
But now he's face down floating in the mainstream
There's paper to chase down
Emotionless and pain free
Savor the taste now
Most of us just can't see
They've got you locked with that device in your pocket
You're live stock
They'll trade your life for a profit
Nobody's trying to stop it
Denying the topic
They're blinding your optic and rip your 3rd eye from its socket
You can skip the add in 30 seconds
They'll make sure that you never learn these lessons
You're in the presence of pure evil, but they tricked you into thinking you're equal"
