Accident involving SUV and motorcycle leaves one woman dead in Columbus, authorities say

An accident involving a motorcycle and an SUV has left one woman dead, according to authorities.

Columbus police said the accident happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Reese Road and Macon Road.

The victim has been identified as Edith Opry, 57, of Columbus, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Bryan said Opry was stopped at a red light on Macon Road when she was struck from behind by a vehicle.

Opry was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m., according to Bryan.

Bryan said Opry suffered blunt-force trauma to the chest.

The Columbus Police Department’s Motor Squad is leading the investigation, according to a post on the department’s X page.
