One man is dead following a car accident Monday afternoon in Harris County, according to Harris County Coroner Joe Weldon.

Weldon identified the victim as Jarret Jackson, 30, of West Point, Ga.

Weldon said Jackson was driving and entered another lane, striking another vehicle and then an 18-wheeler. Jackson was the “at fault” driver in the accident, according to Weldon.

The accident occurred a few minutes after noon Monday on Highway 103 near mile marker 11 in the Flat Shoals Bridge area, Weldon said.

Weldon said it is not believed that drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.

The Georgia State Patrol provided preliminary details on the investigation into the accident.

GSP said a black Ford Fusion was traveling north on State Route 103 when the driver failed to maintain his lane of travel and struck the rear driver side of a red GMC Yukon that was traveling south.

The Fusion then continued north in the southbound lane and struck a tractor trailer head on before traveling off the roadway, according to GSP.

GSP said the Fusion driver was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.

The tractor trailer driver and a passenger from the Yukon were transported to Piedmont’s midtown Columbus hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to GSP.
