Columbus nonprofits will open warming station as freezing temperatures in weather forecast

Freezing temperatures are on the horizon for the Columbus area throughout the week, according to a forecast from the National Weather Service.

Two local nonprofits have decided to open up their doors as a temporary warming station for those in need.

SafeHouse Ministries

SafeHouse Ministries, 2101 Hamilton Road, will be open as a warming station from 7 a.m. Tuesday until 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to a post on their Facebook page. SafeHouse helps the homeless and those suffering from addiction.

The post says, “The SafeHouse will open as an emergency warming station to make sure all those on our streets have a safe, warm place to come.”

SafeHouse asks for donations of sugar, coffee and toilet paper. No one is turned away, and no questions are asked, according to a flyer on the post.

Temperatures are predicted to dip down to around 25 degrees Fahrenheit Tuesday night before going below freezing again Thursday night with a low around 30, according to the forecast.

Valley Rescue Mission

The Valley Rescue Mission will open two of its locations as warming stations Tuesday night in response to below-freezing temperatures, according to a post on the organization’s Facebook page.

Men seeking shelter can go to the Mott Center for Men, 2903 Second Ave.

Women seeking shelter can go to Damascus Way, 1200 11th St.

Those wishing to donate blankets can drop them off at the Mott Center.
