Creativity shines through as Columbus citizens enjoy snow day in the Chattahoochee Valley
Snow trickled down from the gray sky above Columbus Tuesday afternoon, marking an exceptionally rare occasion.
The snow began to accumulate on the ground, tables, trees and cars, leading some to lean into juvenile compulsions.
People walking along Broadway in downtown Columbus could be seen scraping snow together from tables outside restaurants to make snowballs to throw at their friends.
Others could be seen Facetiming loved ones to show them it was snowing while a smile filled their face.
Some people got creative and wrote messages in the snow.
Tylor Capadagli was at Lakebottom Park with his wife, daughter and sister. The Michigan native said he’s missed the snow these past few years.
He said once the ground got slippery, he and his family decided to see if they could slide down a hill at Lakebottom. Capadagli said he tried to slide down the hill on a floatie, which popped.
Capadagli said a man came along with some homemade sleds and offered to share them.
The homemade sleds were made with plastic sheeting, a piece of wood and rope. They slid down the hill at Lakebottom like butter in a hot pan.
Capadagli told the Ledger-Enquirer this is the second time his 7-year-old daughter has seen snow, and the first time she’s been sledding.
“To do it this far south in Georgia is a memory they’ll just keep forever,” he said.
“I don’t even know the words to describe how awesome this is,” Capadagli said.
A few miles away, more people were getting creative with their winter festivities. People could be seen in the historic district of Broadway driving golf carts with kayaks tied behind them.
Children would hop in the kayak, and the driver of the golf cart would drive in a figure eight in the median between the northbound and southbound portions of the road.
