One person dies in Columbus hospital after single-vehicle accident in Phenix City
One person is dead following a single-vehicle accident Sunday in Phenix City, Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr. said.
Sumbry identified the victim as Jessie Snellings, 31. Sumbry said the accident occurred on Stadium Drive in Phenix City.
Snellings was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. at a Columbus hospital. Sumbry said a blood toxicology test has been done. The results of the test will be pending for at least 30 days or more, according to Sumbry.
Sumbry said he is not sure whether Snellings was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Phenx City Police Department Capt. Darrell “Skip” Lassiter Jr. told the Ledger-Enquirer it is not known whether speed contributed to the crash. Lassiter said there were no witnesses to the crash.
“If I’m not mistaken, he did hit part of a sign, up there at the Chevron up on top of the hill at Stadium Drive,” Lassiter said.
Lassiter said no official cause of death has been determined at this time.
Lassiter said, to his knowledge, snow or ice didn’t play a part in the accident.
