A loose kangaroo on an interstate in east Alabama caused havoc for commuters Tuesday morning, according to a news release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

ALEA says a two-vehicle crash occurred around shortly before noon Tuesday involving a kangaroo in the southbound lane of I-85 near mile marker 46 in Macon County. Both the southbound and northbound lanes of I-85 were closed near mile marker 46 while ALEA Highway Patrol Division troopers and the animal’s owner tried to recover the kangaroo, according to ALEA.

ALEA says the kangaroo was recovered and the roadway has been reopened. The kangaroo was not injured in the crash, according to ALEA.

Officials didn’t immediately answer additional questions about the incident.
