Columbus drivers will face detours this weekend for this construction project
Columbus drivers will have to navigate around another detour soon, as the Georgia Department of Transportation plans to shift traffic this weekend for construction on the Diversion Diamond Interchange at US 80 and Bradley Park Drive.
Scheduled for the weekend of June 7, the shift is part of efforts to improve traffic flow and facilitate construction on the interchange, GDOT and the city said in a news release.
During the detour period, the bridge will be closed, but the JR Allen Parkway ramps will remain open.
Westbound traffic will be detoured from Bradley Park Drive to JR Allen Parkway towards Exit 2 at the I-85 ramps before returning to Exit 3A at Bradley Park.
Eastbound traffic will use JR Allen Parkway towards Exit 4 at River Road and return to Exit 3A.
This schedule could be changed based on weather and other unforeseen circumstances, says the news release. Drivers should expect delays and reduced speeds, and they are asked to drive cautiously in work zones.
The new diverging diamond interchange was approved by GDOT in 2021 with an estimated cost of $13.4 million. The project was about 59% complete in April, according to an infrastructure update presented to the Columbus Council.
