Body found in Chattahoochee River. Muscogee coroner asks for help to ID victim.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan is seeking the public’s help to identify the man whose body was found Wednesday in the Chattahoochee River on rocks below the TSYS campus in Columbus.
The man found was probably middle-aged, and didn’t have any ID or tattoos, Bryan told the Ledger-Enquirer. The only clothing on the body was a pair of sweat pants, he said.
“I’m sure he’s a homeless person,” Bryan said Thursday. “. . . Mild decomposition had set in. There was some animal infestation, maggots. So we know he’d been dead for really a day or so in that extreme heat. So I ruled as the manner of death as natural, cause of death is failure to thrive. And it’s heat related. We had some 95-97 degree weather during those couple of days.”
Bryan said anyone with information about the identity of the deceased should call 911 and ask for the coroner’s office.
