An investigation is underway after a man was found submerged in a pool in Phenix City, according to Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.

Sumbry said 67-year-old Edward James Williams of Phenix City was found in a pool in the back of a residence in the 1200 block of 23rd Court.

The residence was not the victim’s home, according to Sumbry.

Sumbry said Williams was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m. Monday.

An autopsy will be performed to determine Williams’ cause of death, according to Sumbry.

Sumbry said the PCPD is investigating this case as a suspicious death.

Phenix City Police said they responded to the call around 5:40 p.m. Monday, according to a news release.

“While the full report is pending, the Medical Examiner has advised that no signs of foul play were observed,” the news release said.

Police said the case remains under investigation.
