Columbus police respond to active shooter at Amazon warehouse. Suspect dead
A suspected gunman is dead after an active shooter situation at an Amazon warehouse in the Midland area of Columbus, according to the Columbus Police Department.
CPD public information officer Brittany Santiago said police responded to the call around 4:47 a.m. Monday at the Amazon facility at 5898 Osceola Court.
A news release from CPD says preliminary information indicates the man fired multiple shots into the front of the facility from outside. Police said the man walked a short distance away, where responding officers confronted him.
There was a brief standoff after the man brandished a firearm, according to police.
“The incident ended when the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the release says.
Santiago confirmed the suspected gunman died by suicide.
Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan identified the suspect as 22-year-old Myles Belyue of Columbus. Bryan said Belyue was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:45 a.m.
Police said no other injuries were reported.
Police said this case is an active investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
