Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies found what appears to be decomposed human remains in a yard Tuesday, according to a news release.

Deputies responded to the 200 block of Lee Road 205 in the Salem community for a wellness check on a family member who hadn’t been heard from for several months, the news release says.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told the Ledger-Enquirer family members from Texas and Georgia contacted the LCSO and told them the last known contact of the person was in May.

Deputies found apparent human remains of an adult male in the yard, and they appeared to have been there for several months, the LCSO said.

Investigators couldn’t determine the identity of the person or where there was foul play due to decomposition, according to the news release.

The remains will be taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for a postmortem examination, the LCSO said.

The LCSO asks anyone with information about the case to call the sheriff’s office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
