Former Columbus sports reporter dead after apparent murder-suicide in Hoover
A former sports reporter who worked for WLTZ in Columbus has died after an apparent murder-suicide in Hoover, Alabama, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office and a Facebook post from WBRC, where she had also worked.
A post on WBRC’s Facebook page says, “We are absolutely heartbroken to share this news. We have confirmed former WBRC sports reporter Christina Chambers is one of the two people found dead in a Hoover home Tuesday morning.”
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Chambers was pronounced dead today and was one of two people who died in a believed murder-suicide.
A post on the Hoover (AL) Police Department Facebook page from Tuesday afternoon says a death investigation is underway in the 700 block of Highland Manor Court after the Hoover 911 Center received a call at 9:03 a.m. that a husband and wife were unresponsive at their residence after being discovered by a family member.
The post says a 3-year-old child was located in the house unharmed. Hoover Fire-medics responded to the residence and pronounced the man and woman dead from gunshot wounds, according to the post.
“Although the investigation is in its early stages, it appears these deaths are the result of a murder/suicide and there is no threat to the public related to this case,” the post says.
Chambers’ LinkedIn profile says she worked for WLTZ in Columbus from April 2010 to March 2013. She was a sports reporter at WRBC in Birmingham from 2015 to 2021.
