A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle Friday night on Macon Road, according to officials.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan said the victim was struck in front of the Muscogee County School District headquarters.

Bryan identified the victim as Shirley Ann Lewis, 66. Lewis apparently crossed against traffic and walked in front of a U-Haul, he said.

A post on the Columbus Police Department’s X page says officers responded to the intersection of Macon Road and Rigdon Road.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where she died, according to the post.

CPD’s motor squad is leading the investigation, the post says.

No arrest has been made, Columbus Police Department public information officer Brittany Santiago told the Ledger-Enquirer.
