Phenix City club raising money to help EMT whose home was destroyed in Christmas fire
A Phenix City haunted house club is asking the community to help one of their members who lost his home in a fire, according to a post on the group’s Facebook.
A post on the Canterbury Creepers Facebook page says Jeff Kirkland’s home was destroyed on Christmas Day.
An account at GoFundMe.com was set up to help raise money for Kirkland.
“Jeff has always been the kind of person who steps up for others,” the account’s organizer, Joshua Ainsworth, wrote. “As a dedicated member of our haunted house club, The Canterbury Creepers, and a volunteer EMT for his local fire department, he’s spent countless hours helping people in need.”
The GoFundMe says the fire caused Kirkland to lose his home, belongings, car key and driver’s license.
“Despite this devastating setback, Jeff’s spirit remains strong, and he continues to inspire those around him with his resilience and hope,” the GoFundMe says.
The GoFundMe says the money raised will go to securing housing, providing clothing and food, replacing his car key and his driver’s license.
As of Tuesday morning, the GoFundMe has raised $930 from eight donations toward the $1,600 goal.
