Columbus police investigating pedestrian death on Veterans Parkway

The Columbus Police Department is investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian Sunday.

“This morning, officers responded to Veterans Parkway near Almond Road for a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash,” CPD announced at 4:57 p.m. Sunday on its X page. “The pedestrian has died. Our Motor Squad is handling the investigation.”

The victim was pronounced dead at 2:34 p.m. in Piedmont Columbus Regional’s midtown hospital, CPD public information officer Brittany Santiago told the Ledger-Enquirer on Monday. No criminal changes have been filed, but the incident remains under investigation, she said.

The name of the victim won’t be released until the next of kin is notified, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan told the L-E.
