Columbus woman dies on Valentine’s Day from injuries in head-on collision

A Columbus woman died on Valentine’s Day from injuries sustained in a car crash.

At 4:14 p.m. Saturday, Marie B. Thompson, 70, was critically injured when the 2019 Nissan Rogue she was driving collided head-on with a 2017 Dodge Journey on U.S. Highway 80 near the 200-mile marker, about 14 miles west of Phenix City in Russell County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Thompson was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional’s midtown hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead, ALEA said in a news release Sunday.

The driver of the other vehicle also was injured and transported to the hospital for medical treatment, according to ALEA.

No further information about the crash was available.
