Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan requests the public’s help to find any relative of a man who was found dead and alone at home in Columbus.

Eugenio Dones-Rivera, 80, was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon after the coroner’s office responded to a call from a neighbor doing a welfare check at his home on Banks Avenue, Bryan told the Ledger-Enquirer Friday.

The cause of death is natural, Bryan said.

“It was failure to thrive,” Bryan said. “He had plenty of health issues. He apparently lived alone.”

Dones-Rivera was from Puerto Rico and lived in Columbus “for a long, long time,” Bryan said. “We don’t have any information on any kind of relatives or whatever, so we’re just searching for his next of kin or somebody that might know him or his family.”

Bryan said anyone with information about Dones-Rivera or his family should call 911 and ask for the coroner.
