Smiths Station fire leaves one person dead, and another is taken to a hospital
One person died and another was taken to a hospital from a fire Friday in Lee County, the Smiths Station Fire Protection District announced.
At 7:19 a.m. CDT, first responders from Smiths Station and Lee County were dispatched to a structure fire on Lee Road 211, according to the news release.
“Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke conditions with fire visible from the rear of the structure,” the news release says. “Initial crews forced entry through a door and located a victim just inside the doorway. The victim was quickly removed, and personnel from Medic 1 immediately initiated advanced life support care before transporting the patient to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.”
Crews from the Ladonia Fire Department joined the effort and helped find a second victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release.
The deceased person’s name wasn’t released.
“The scene has been turned over to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Division and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office,” the news release says. “The cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
