Folksy former Columbus morning TV talk show host Calvin Floyd dies. Funeral service set
Calvin Floyd, the folksy former host of a popular Columbus morning TV talk show that helped brighten the outlook of Chattahoochee Valley residents as they started their day, has died.
Floyd died Sunday at a nursing home in Cumming, Georgia, Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan told the Ledger-Enquirer.
He was 82. His cause of death wasn’t available before publication.
A service to celebrate Floyd’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. April 4 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. in Columbus, according to his obituary.
Floyd’s “Rise ‘n’ Shine” show aired from 1989 to 2010 on WLTZ. It was so down-home, the set had him sitting with guests around a kitchen table. The station moved Floyd’s show from 6 a.m. to noon, when it was called “Calvin Floyd Live,” before ending his run in 2012.
“He had a great sense of humor,” Bryan said, “and he was a highly intelligent man.”
