Man dies in Columbus hospital after car flips, crashes into tree in Lee County

A LaGrange man died Sunday in a Columbus hospital from injuries he suffered during a single-vehicle crash two days earlier in Lee County.

Cashton X. Canady, 25, was critically injured when the 2015 Chevrolet Impala he was driving around 7:45 p.m. Friday left the roadway, overturned and struck a tree on Lee Road 379, near Lee Road 2213, approximately six miles north of Smiths Station, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced Monday.

Canady was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional’s hospital in midtown Columbus, where he was pronounced dead two days later, according to ALEA.

A 23-year-old passenger also was injured and transported to the hospital for medical treatment, ALEA said, but his condition wasn’t disclosed.

No further information is available while troopers from the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate, the news release says, so it’s unclear what caused the crash. ALEA’s spokesman didn’t reply to the Ledger-Enquirer’s questions before publication.
