Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson names nominee to be next city manager

Mayor Skip Henderson recommended Tyson Begley to be the next city manager at the end of Tuesday night’s council meeting.

Begley is an executive, community leader and former Columbus Councilor, Henderson said. He also has more than 20 years of experience in finance, operations, technology, strategic planning and public service, Henderson said.

Council has at least two weeks before they vote on the nominee.

The city manager position became vacant last year after the Columbus Council fired Isaiah Hugley, following an investigation into the Columbus Finance Department.

This nomination comes after Henderson came under fire for pausing the city manager search at the end of 2025.

Begley was appointed to the Columbus Council to fill the remainder of John House’s term in 2024.

He chaired Columbus’ Public Safety Commission through the merger of the marshal’s office with the sheriff’s office. Begley also chaired the city Charter Review Commission and served on the Columbus Development Authority.

Begley was previously CFO and COO of Delta Data, which provides back-end solutions for mutual funds, before it was acquired by TAP Software Holdings in 2021.
