Columbus restaurant donating part of sales to help Dollar General homicide victim’s family
A local restaurant is stepping in to help as the Columbus community grieves the death of Alexis Hill, the Dollar General manager who authorities say was fatally shot Tuesday by a customer in the store at the intersection of Victory Drive and Marathon Drive.
Wednesday, Da Funnel Cake Factory, 1128 Fort Benning Road, announced it is giving “some of the proceeds” of its restaurant to Hill’s family. The Facebook post says the proceeds will be collected this week and given to the Hill family June 28.
“This is our community good bad or indifferent,” the post says. “I love this community with all my heart. I have seen ugly comments about this are but many great people of come from this area and the next generation from this area is also producing amazing adults.”
The restaurant is also hosting a community prayer and candle lighting in honor of Hill on June 27 at 12:30 p.m. at 1002 Bay Ave.
Another way to support Hill’s family
A fundraiser at GoFundMe.com is raising money to help Hill’s family pay for her “memorial service, burial, travel for her next of kin, funeral arrangements and estate expenses,” according to the account established by her brother, Jonathan Hill.
“Alexis Hill was a beloved sister, friend, and member of our family whose sudden passing has left us heartbroken,” he wrote. “As her brother, I am reaching out to our community to help honor her memory and ensure she receives the farewell she deserves. Alexis touched many lives with her kindness and spirit, and we want to come together to celebrate her life and support her estate during this difficult time.
“... Please be advised that any other GoFundMe posts or links outside of this one have not been authorized by the estate, and we cannot guarantee the funds will be received and used properly outside this GoFundMe campaign. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and is deeply appreciated. Thank you for your kindness, support, and for helping us honor Alexis’s memory.”
As of Friday at noon, $12,522 from 246 donations had been raised toward the $16,000 goal.
