For the seventh year in a row, September is Blue Morpho Butterfly Month at the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center at Callaway Gardens, a month in which the center is filled exclusively with blue morphos. These tropical butterflies are native to the rainforests of South and Central America, are iridescent blue in color and have a wingspan of 5 to 8 inches. The Day Butterfly Center's manager, Michael Buckman, who is seen above working with the blue morpho butterflies, says the center at Callaway Gardens is the largest display of blue morphos at this moment. The butterflies arrive to the center in chrysalis form and are released into the conservatory after emerging.
