Workers prepare for opening day of Greater Columbus Fair
Holding an outdoor carnival down South has always been a game of chance, a wager on good weather.
No one wants to ride a ferris wheel in a lightning storm.
This week's forecast looks like a sure bet for the Greater Columbus Fair, during which a run of beautiful fall weather should pay off handsomely. Today may be a touch warm at 80 degrees with partly cloudy skies, a 20 percent chance of rain and about 70 percent humidity, but after that, autumn is in the air.
The forecast has a zero percent chance of rain Wednesday through Sunday, with sunny skies and high temperatures gradually dropping by 10 degrees from the upper 70s, and nightly lows in the 50s. The humidity also is to decrease.
The fair runs today through Sunday, featuring rides, games, food and entertainment outside the Columbus Civic Center and exhibitions inside. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children ages 3 through 9, with younger kids admitted free.
It's open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. today through Thursday; 5 p.m. to midnight Friday; 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, according to the Civic Center event schedule online at www.columbusciviccenter.org.
