CSU to present 'The Rocky Horror Show' on Friday
The theatre department at Columbus State University is brewing up a special treat for Halloween.
The wickedly funny and campy musical comedy "The Rocky Horror Show" will be presented twice Saturday night.
The first performance at the Riverside Theatre Complex downtown will be at 7:30 p.m., with a special late show at 11 p.m.
For those who can't wait, there will be a show Friday night, and for those dying to see the show but unable to make it this week, there will be three performances in November.
The Rocky Horror Show is a satire of B movie horror and science fiction genres.
The story, music and lyrics were written by English actor Richard O'Brien.
CSU theatre department chair Larry Dooley calls the show "lots of silliness."
"It's really good fun," Dooley said.
A review by WNBC in New York described the show as a "socko, weirdo rock concert."
Dooley said there is plenty of audience participation with items being thrown and lines shouted out.
He said audience participation kits will be handed out to those in attendance.
A movie adaptation of the play, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," starring Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon, has reached cult status.
"The live shows have been very popular, too," Dooley remarked.
The story is centered around straight-laced lovebirds Brad and Janet, who, while driving home on a rainy night, end up at the castle of the transvestite Dr. Fran-N-Furter and his bizarre entourage.
The mad scientist is having a party, and it is not any ordinary party. This is the unveiling of the doctor's latest creation -- Rocky -- who is a handsome, blonde man.
