Only a few tickets left for Elton John concert
Dozens of people lined up in front of the Columbus Civic Center early Friday to purchase tickets to Elton John's March 16 concert in Columbus.
And apparently thousands more were online at Ticketmaster.com buying the rest with just a few tickets available by Friday night.
Tickets for the concert, which was announced last week, were available for presale Wednesday for fan club members. General sales tickets were made available Friday at 10 a.m.
Ticket prices started at $45 and went up to $79 and $139.
"The response was what I hoped for after talking to people who were excited he was coming," Civic Center Director Ross Horner said.
If you weren't lucky enough to purchase your tickets Friday, there already are some available on StubHub! and eBay, but you can expect to shell out a lot more money than regular ticket price.
According to a search on StubHub!, approximately 200 tickets were available around 5 p.m. The cheapest started at $110, with the most expensive topping out at $1,999 for front-row seats.
EBay had far fewer tickets available with just eight listings Friday afternoon.
Horner warned people that buy tickets from outside sources, like StubHub! and eBay, because there's little help the Civic Center can offer if anything goes wrong.
He also hinted that there's a possibility a few more tickets may be available.
"I'd pay attention for an announcement," he said. "There may be more tickets open up as they get closer."
The Civic Center can hold more than 8,500 people for concerts like this one, Horner said. Country music group Lady Antebellum was the last sellout for the center, he said.
The concert, which is part of a nine-city tour, will feature John's iconic hits and classic album tracks from his five-decade career.
It also will feature some tracks from his upcoming album, "Wonderful Crazy Night."
His band will feature Nigel Olsson on drums, Davey Johnstone on guitar, John Mahon on percussion, Kim Bullard on keyboards and Matt Bissonette on bass, according to a release.
