Sing along with Straight No Chaser at the RiverCenter

Straight No Chaser, a world-renowned male a capella group, offers its audience some of the old and new.

During a concert featuring the 10 talented singers, audience members hear songs made famous by older artists such as Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder and Three Dog Night, as well as more current stars such as Adele, Jason Mraz and Bruno Mars.

Anyone attending the performance Saturday night at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in Columbus will also hear some holiday favorites.

In an interview published in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, group member Seggie Isho said, "We introduce the young crowd to the older music and the older crowd to the young music."

The group's stop in Columbus is one on its "New Old Fashioned Tour," which includes concerts in places such as Honolulu and Paris.

"Listening to Straight No Chaser sing is like an aural puzzle. Pieces of vocals link together in perfect harmony as the a capella group coats many contemporary pop songs with their distinctive stylings," said a review in the Atlanta Constitution.

But Straight No Chaser entertains with more than singing.

"The group is known almost as much for its improvisational/comedic stylings as it is for its killer singing chops. Friday night's show struck a comfortable balance of sincerity with winking-at-the-crowd goofiness," said a review on MLive.com of a show in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Straight No Chaser got its beginning in 1996 at Indiana University. It disbanded after three years. Then in 2006, a 1998 video featuring the group performing "The 12 Days of Christmas" gained huge popularity on YouTube and some group members came back together, eventually signing a contract with Atlantic Records for five albums.

The group will be performing numbers from its latest album, "The New Old Fashioned," in Columbus.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the group's story will be told in a film produced by DreamWorks and directed by Michael Sucsy, who directed "The Vow."
