FDR State Park manager up for Ranger of the Year
A Pine Mountain, Ga., resident and manager of F.D. Roosevelt State Park is in the running for Ranger of the Year, a competition being held by National Servicewear Apparel.
Desmond Timmons, who has been at FDR park nearly four years, is among 12 park ranger finalists from across the U.S. in the competition, which will reward the top honoree with $1,000 in uniforms. The runner-up receives $500 in uniforms.
"Awards like that, you have to share," said Timmons. "I'm hoping to win so I can give my staff something as a reward for their hard work. I can get some of them jackets and pants, things like that."
The best part about the competition is the public decides who gets the award. Voting runs through today, with the honorees being announced Tuesday. The voting page includes information about each finalist.
