Give back with Holiday Help program

Since we started the Holiday Help program at the Ledger-Enquirer, many of the letters we've received have been from grandparents, and this year is no exception.

One woman who is out of work asked for simple gifts for her five grandchildren under the age of 9, including a Bible for each of the two oldest.

In another letter, a couple raising their two grandchildren on a fixed income asked for food for a holiday meal and clothes and toys for the children.

Each year, the Ledger-Enquirer's Holiday Help program helps hundreds of people, and we already have hundreds of letters requesting help.

The premise of our program is simple: People in need write letters describing their plight, and people with plenty choose letters and then help the people in need.

To see the letters and make a selection, stop by our lobby on the first floor of the Hardaway Building at 945 Broadway from

8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Dec. 23, and 8:30 a.m. to noon on Christmas Eve.

If you have a great need this holiday season, we hope you'll send us a holiday help letter. Here's how: Write a letter describing what you need. Be sure to include your name, phone number and address so donors can contact you. Mail it to: Holiday Help, P.O. Box 711; Columbus, GA 31902-0711. You can also drop off your letter in the Ledger-Enquirer lobby.

If you have an abundance, we hope you'll consider helping.

The Ledger-Enquirer does not screen letters, nor can it guarantee their truthfulness.

Happy holidays from the Ledger-Enquirer!
