If you are looking for a cool place to spend some time during the holiday season, you might want to try the Columbus Ice Rink.

Though it has been around since 2011 and attendance has continued to grow, Rae McConnell believes there are a lot of people who still "don't know we are here."

"People need to come out and see what we are all about, and this is a great time to do it," said the administrative assistant.

Located next to the Columbus Civic Center, the 38,122-square- foot facility has a single National Hockey League regulation-sized ice surface.

There is plenty of parking.

McConnell said people should not be concerned about learning to skate.

"It is really not that difficult and we have some helpers here," she said.

McConnell added that skating is a great family activity.

It's also a good way to work off some calories from all those holiday treats and big meals.

There is also plenty of space in the building to come and just watch.

During a visit to the rink, people can learn how to get involved in skating lessons, hockey and figure skating programs.

There is a concession stand and also a shop where Columbus Cottonmouths apparel may be purchased.

The rink will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

On Saturday and Sunday, there will be public skating from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Monday through Thursday, including New Year's Eve, public skating will be from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

If you want to take a break from watching football, the rink will be open on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 with public skating from 4 p.m. from 9 p.m.

It does not cost much to skate. For adults, it is $7 and for children 10 and under, it is $5.

If you do not have your own skates, it is an extra $3.

There are also group discounts.
