27th Street home destroyed in fire
No injuries were reported in a Wednesday night fire that destroyed a Columbus home in the 1500 block of 27th Street, officials said.
Columbus firefighters said they responded to the scene around 9:37 p.m.
Firefighters extinguished the flames before they spread to two adjacent homes in the area, according to the department's Facebook page.
American Red Cross was on the scene to assist the victims.
"Upon arrival, fire units found a two-story wood-framed house on fire," officials stated in the post. "No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported."
Investigators determined that the cause of the fire was wood being improperly burned in a charcoal grill in a bedroom. The occupant was using the grill for warmth, officials added.
"Please, be responsible with alternative heating sources," officials advised.
There were also no working smoke detectors in the home.
