Raw Video:Morning fire heavily damages East Alabama home
The Ladonia, Mount Olive and Uchee Creek fire departments teamed together around 7 a.m. this morning to battle a Russell County house fire at 15 Lee Road 208.
LaDonia Assistant Fire Chief David Martin said five people were in the home when the blaze started in the laundry room area, but no one was harmed. Investigators suspect that an electrical issue may have started the fire, but the cause is still under investiagtion.
"Once it got up in the ceiling, it was hard to get to," Martin said of the fire, which was extinguished two to three hours after officials arrived on the scene. "There was extensive damage to the kitchen/laundry room area. There was lot of smoke damage to the rest of the house, some water damage of course."
Phenix City Police were on the scene this morning managing the traffic on the road near the intersection of Lee Road 208 (also known as Coffield Drive) and Sage Street.
Martin said fire officials had returned from the scene by 2:36 p.m. after spending most of the day fighting hot spots and helping the family collect what was left of their belongings.
